Oban-based Scotsman John McPhee made a brilliant return to grand prix racing after his serious accident at the Australian Grand Prix last October. Riding for the new British Talent Honda team the 22-year old fought in a ferocious ten rider battle to finish second behind Spaniard Joan Mir on the long run to the finishing line in the Moto3™ race at the Grand Prix of Qatar. It is just his third grand prix podium finish which included a maiden grand prix victory at the wet Czech Republic Grand Prix last year.
“I can’t thank everyone enough, honestly, the team and everyone behind me,” said McPhee. “I’ve been given this opportunity and I’m trying to make the most of it so that’s the best way to start off the season. All race the bike was so fast, I felt really strong in the group. We ticked all the boxes in preseason testing and we knew we could be strong, even if the weekend’s not been the best, position-wise. I stuck to the plan and now it’s paid off so I’m absolutely delighted!”
